Alma M Ahrendt Obituary AHRENDT, Alma M. (age 102) A loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Alma passed away January 26, 2021 at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, John and Lillian Ahrendt in Yakima, WA, while convalescing from a sudden bout of weakness. She had been living self-sufficiently in her home in North Spokane until a few months after her 102nd birthday. She was born on August 11, 1918 in Spokane, WA to parents Roger and Mary (nee Aschenbrenner) Hesseltine. Alma graduated from North Central High School in January 1937 before moving to San Francisco to become an Office Girl. There she met James Ahrendt on the trolly commute, falling in love when he shared his umbrella. The two married in 1945 and settled in Spokane, having a total of seven children. In January 1959, Alma became a switchboard operator at Deaconess Hospital, where she worked for 47 ? years, retiring at age 89 in August 2007. A woman of strong faith, Alma was an active member of Grace Brethren Church and in later years attended Hillyard Baptist. She was preceded in death by her son Grant; husband James; and son James, Jr. Alma is survived by her children Gloria Pavasars, Howard Steven Ahrendt, John Ahrendt, Janet Allen, and Jeffrey Ahrendt. A private memorial service will be held for family members at Heritage Funeral & Cremation followed by a graveside adieu at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Alma was loved by many and will be dearly missed.
