Andrew Oscar "Andy" Matson Obituary
(Age 90) Andy passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Christmas day with his loving family by his side at Hospice House. Waiting for him on the other side was his daughter Kristie. Andy was born on August 29, 1925 to Oscar Matson and Lempi Maatta in Menahga, MN and was one of 15 children. He was a veteran of World War II. He left home at the age of 14 and road the rails. Andy was as tough as nails, ironically he became a carpenter by trade. He was a furniture maker, building violins, banjos and grandfather clocks for his four daughters. He enjoyed his family time which meant a lot to him and to have his wife by his side. Andy and Marilyn loved to travel, go on many cruises, and spend time at their lake place where he loved to fish on his pontoon boat. He was also an avid hunter during his early years with his wife and later with daughters and son-in-laws. Andy worked until the age of 89.
Andy is survived by his wife Marilyn; daughters Gayle (Jerry) Johnson, Jane (Richard) Manoli and Fay (Paul) Bertelson; grandchildren Shelly Meade, Chad Johnson, Todd Manoli-Smith and Tara Johnson; great-grandchildren Sierra, Kalynn, Garrett, Lucas and Benjamin; one sister Lorraine Macho and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter Kristie Mountain, parents and 13 siblings.
Many thanks to Hospice of Spokane and his nurse Medina, for all the loving care he received. We also want to thank Hospice House for the great care Andy received during his final days. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, December 31, 2015 at 10:00 am at Heritage Funeral Home followed by a Graveside Service at Fairmount Memorial Park.
