Bette Mae Neff May 28, 1925–October 10, 2024
On October 10, 2024 Bette Neff, a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and aunt, passed away at age 99 in Spokane, WA. She was born to Loyd and Freda Jacob in Anaconda MT. The family later moved to Helena where Bette graduated from Helena High School in 1943. She met John Neff in Spokane in 1946 and after 3 months of dating they married. Bette and John celebrated their 78th anniversary in July of this year. It was a beautiful marriage filled with love and devotion. They raised three children, David, Nancy, and Nadine.
Bette was devoted to her family and known for her friendships, be they neighbors, co-workers, or bridge partners. She had a big heart, a good sense of humor, and was always ready to share a story, a joke or one of her amazing homemade pies.
She worked for Pacific Northwest Bell as a telephone representative and retired in 1983. Bette and John lived most of their adult lives in Spokane, but in retirement became snowbirds and spent winters in Sun Lakes, AZ, eventually becoming residents there, and spending summers in Spokane.
Their faith was an integral part of their life and they were active members of their Lutheran Church in Spokane and helped start a new and thriving Lutheran Church in Sun Lakes, AZ.
Bette was preceded in death by sisters Anamerle Vandiver and Hazel Pace, brother Loyd Jacob, son David Neff. She is survived by John Neff, her husband of 78 years, daughters Nadine Sturm (Paul), and Nancy Logan, grandchildren Britt Neff, John Neff, Kyle Nelson, Rhett Nelson (Tara), Jonathan Nelson (Eileen), Kelsey Scherler, Jake Scherler, and many much-loved great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
We are grateful to the staff and community of Fairwinds Retirement Community in Spokane and to the dedicated, and compassionate care of the staff at Horizon Hospice. Bette and John previously lived two years at Fairwood Retirement Community, and thoroughly enjoyed the friendships they made there.
A reception will be held Saturday, Nov 2 from 1-3 pm at Fairwinds-Spokane, 520 E Holland Ave.
