Betty Marie Bakie Obituary Betty Marie Bakie of Spokane, WA passed away on January 7, 2023. Betty was born on July 11, 1944 in American Falls, Idaho to Verla and Wayne Stambaugh. She grew up in Walla Walla, WA with her two older brothers Jerry and Ralph. She graduated from Kinman Business University. In 1963, Betty married her soul mate, Robert G. Bakie and the couple had three children together. Betty loved to travel. She and Bob were fortunate to be able to visit almost all of the states In the United States. They visited Hong Kong, China, Jamaica and Mexico. Her favorite destination was Maui, Hawaii. Betty had a love of fashion and worked for Nordstrom for many years as the head dresser for fashion shows and in sales in many different departments. She also worked as a model and in the fashion office for The Crescent. Betty was best known for her creativity. She was an avid quilter, skilled in piecing, hand appliqu� and wearable art. She worked for Pacific Crescent Quilting, where she taught many people how to quilt. One of her best known classes was the Colorwash Irish Chain. She was also active in the Washington State Quilters. In 2005 she was featured quilter of the Washington State Quilters Quilt Show, a title she generously shared with both of her daughters. Some of her other creative endeavors included painting in watercolor, acrylics and oils, toll painting, and stained glass. Betty is survived by her husband Robert G. Bakie, her daughters Cheryl Poffenroth (Don) and Lorie Jones (Derek) and son Robert T. Bakie (Gillia), six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents Verla and Wayne Stambaugh, and her brothers Jerry Stambaugh and Ralph Stambaugh. Celebration of Life is scheduled for 1:00 pm on January 24, 2023, at Heritage Funeral Home with a reception to follow. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Betty�s life.
