Carmine Joseph Malico Obituary C.J. Malico, born April 11, 1929, son of Michelina Cassilla and Charles Malico, passed away on April 30, 2023, in Kirkland, Washington surrounded by his family. C.J., who also went by Mel to family and close friends, was born in Brooklyn, and raised on Long Island, in Huntington, New York. C.J. was the fifth child in a large family of eight siblings. He joined the army in 1948 and was deployed to Japan and then Europe where he met the love of his life Virginia Pitts in Austria during the occupation following World War II. After discharge, C.J. followed Virginia back to Spokane, Washington where they married, raised four children, and lived the majority of their lives. C.J. retired from the United States Postal Service after 30 years. He was an avid golfer and spent most afternoons at Indian Canyon on the golf course, the driving range, or in the pro shop sharing his love of the game. As a past president and longtime member of the Indian Canyon Men�s Club, C.J. enjoyed playing in tournaments, volunteering on the course, and giving a lesson to anyone who approached him on the range. After retirement, C.J. and Virginia enjoyed golfing together and spending time with family, eventually relocating to the Tacoma area in 2010 to be closer to their daughters and their families. C.J. was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Virginia; son William (Bill); his parents; and all 7 siblings. He was dearly loved and is survived by his three daughters Mary Waterbly (Shayne), Jane Malico (David Dingman), Margy VanDyke (Derek); grandchildren Kimberly Waterbly, Shannon McCormick, Bryan Waterbly, Meghan Dingman, Emily Dingman, Megan VanDyke and Matthew VanDyke as well as two great granddaughters Emmy and Ellie McCormick.
