Charles R Grizzle Obituary Charles R. Grizzle passed to be with our Lord and savior on January 28, 2023 at the age of 87. Born on June 28, 1935 in Red Granite, Wisconsin to Charles Henry and Angeline Grizzle, Chuck led a full life having lived in Illinois, Indiana, New York City, France, California, and finally settling in Spokane in 1979. Chuck grew up in Argos, Indiana. As a young man with an adventurous spirit, he worked his way across the country in 1956 and surprisingly landed a job at Walt Disney Studio in Burbank during the "Golden Years" where he befriended both Walt and Roy Disney. Upon promotion to the Publicity Department he realized he needed more education and enrolled in college. He attended Indiana State University to pursue a degree in Radio and Television Production and became President of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. During this time Chuck sang and played guitar with The Indiana Singing Hoosiers, and entertained troops in Germany for the U.S.O. He also met his beautiful wife, Janet Mae Ramsey of Indianapolis, and they soon married in 1961 after his graduation. As a Lieutenant, Chuck served at the U.S. Army Pictorial Center in NYC and in 1st Signal Group Headquarters in Orleans, France. In 1963, Disney Studio rehired him as a Publicist and he and Janet settled in California to begin raising their family. During Chuck's Hollywood career he promoted major motion pictures, escorted stars, and wrote and produced previews of coming attractions (trailers) for Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color on NBC-TV. In addition, he managed post-production promotion of The Happiest Millionaire, Walt Disney's last movie and expanded the product line of Walt Disney Educational Media Co. Chuck also worked in new product development. Upon leaving Disney, he worked as a consultant for Disney Studio, Sea World, and National Educational Media Co. After moving his family to Spokane, he directed advertising and product promotion for a number of companies including Washington Water Power, Cominco, Western Unit Farm Magazines, Kershaws and Pacific Gas Transmissions Co. Chuck retired early to volunteer in many benevolent causes. He was Past-President and a 36 year member of the Spokane Downtown Exchange Club. He served as Elder and directed fundraising at Manito Presbyterian Church. He volunteered for animal rescue organizations and drove deliveries for the food bank. He attended and enjoyed many small groups and bible studies over the years. He and Janet have supported Southside Christian Church since its founding in 2001. As a writer and artist, Chuck self-published books, recorded stories, and created many oil paintings. He found great joy in spending time with his grandchildren and attending their many events in the Spokane area. Chuck is survived by his wife, Janet of 61 years, two daughters and spouses, Vicki & Peter Clancy, Brenda & David Janke both of Spokane, and five grandchildren: Kayla Clancy, Jonathan Clancy, Malia Clancy, Madison Janke O'Farrell (and her husband Isaac O'Farrell) and Autumn Janke Brown (and her husband Caleb Brown). In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Chuck's honor to Southside Christian Church or Union Gospel Mission of Spokane.
