Clyde Boyd Anderson

July 30, 1926 - November 26, 2022

Clyde Boyd Anderson Obituary Clyde Boyd Anderson On November 26, 2022, Clyde Anderson left this life to join his wife, Joanne, and son, Dale. He is remembered with love by his two daughters, Darien Vance of Kalispell, Montana and Martha Murray of Spokane Valley, Washington. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Clyde was the youngest of eight children, born in 1926 to Swedish immigrants, Kaleb and Minnie Anderson. He grew up and raised his own family in Spokane, Washington. Clyde accomplished much in his life, but he will be remembered most for his love of God, people, and nature. During his 33 years at Inland Empire Paper Company (IEP) in Millwood, Clyde worked to create sustainable forestry and paper production, believing strongly in his charge to be a good steward of Gods creation. Through his desire to share nature with others, Clyde helped negotiate 10 uninterrupted miles of IEP shoreline along the Spokane River to the care of Washington State Parks. Generations now have the opportunity to enjoy the Centennial Trail, sharing walks with those they love or simply in solitude with the Divine. In 1993, Clyde was appointed as Washington State Parks Commissioner, serving 12 years. In 2007, recognizing the many ways Clyde has protected Washingtons forests, Governor Gregoire honored him with the title Commissioner for Life. Clyde Anderson also had the honor of serving in the US Navy, flying the Stearman N25-250 HP Bi-Plane from his enlistment in 1944 until his honorable discharge in 1946. Remaining in the Reserves, Clyde was recalled to active duty in 1950 at the start of the Korean War, serving on the destroyer, USS OBannon. He served until 1953 before returning to school to earn his B.S Degree in Forestry from the University of Washington. Clyde is remembered by those with whom he served for his natural leadership and genuine care for people. Those who love Clyde remember him as father, grandfather, and friend. His optimism, charisma, and humor touched countless lives, especially his children and the many foster children and foreign exchange students he cared for. He passed on his passion for scuba diving, traveling, skiing, and carpentry; and in everything he did, he shared Gods love. We remember Clyde for his kindness and thoughtfulness, his deep faith in God and his unending desire to serve. We remember him for his incredible generosity and desire to lift up everyone around him. We remember him for all he has done for the communities of Millwood and Spokane, but mostly we remember him for his heart. Friends and family may share memories, sign his online guestbook and check for updates for his Celebration of Life gathering in the summer of 2023. Contributions in Clydes honor may be made to Friends of the Centennial Trail at spokanecentennialtrail.org To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Clyde, please visit our Tree Store.
