The Young family moved to Spokane when Bob was 17. He attended Rogers High School, then worked at Columbia Electric until joining the Army in January 1944. The Young family traveled and camped anywhere that had something interesting, fun or beautiful to look at. Bob hiked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon twice after retiring. His hobbies were varied and numerous. Gardening was a favorite and the Young?s house was well known for its beautiful flowers, cement work birdbaths and raised flower beds, and 14 bird houses. Colorful rocks were gathered on vacations then cut into thin slices, polished and made into beautiful acrylic table tops. HO scale trains were always a favorite and bob had over 300 feet of track. He built a motorized aluminum can crusher which he used to crush over 100,000 cans for recycling. Bob and Selma also remodeled two homes in their 68 year marriage.
Bob and Selma had three children: Roberta (Stephen) Peterson, Rebecca (Jack) Stryker and Gary (Jacque) Young. Grandchildren include Nicole Peterson, Kristina Peterson, Angela (Seth) Preston, Tana (Marc) Caldwell and Ryan (Annette) Young. At his request there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution to the Salvation Army (1224 Es Trent, Spokane, WA 99202) or your favorite charity. The Young family would especially like to thank Safari Adult Family Home where Bob lived since November 24, 2015 for the care they gave him and to Horizon Hospice who took care of his end of life needs.
