Eve Akinaka

November 22, 2022 - April 26, 2023

Eve Akinaka Obituary First-born daughter to Jason and Carrie Akinaka, Eve L?liapuakea VanDusen Akinaka was born on November 22, 2022. She passed away peacefully on April 26, 2023 at home in Spokane, Washington, in her parents arms and surrounded by family near and far. Eve suffered from a rare degenerative genetic conditiona congenital disorder of glycosylation (CDG). This resulted in respiratory, cardiac, and neuromuscular problems and, ultimately, seizures and brain atrophy. Nevertheless, Eve enjoyed five months of life, as she was tenderly ministered to by many doctors, nurses, therapists, hospice and palliative care teams, and others. She lived fully! Eve loved Mommys snuggles, Daddys kisses, swimming in pools, strolling in nature, exploring sandy shores, tasting tropical treats, and meeting dozens of adoring Eve-angelists. With her bright blue eyes, sweet coos, calm demeanor, and heavenly spirit, Eve brought joy, clarity, and renewed faith to loved ones and even strangers. She lived true to her name: pure white lily. Eve is survived by her parents and extended family in Washington, Hawaii, Idaho, Colorado, and Minnesota, including her paternal and maternal grandparents, 10 aunties and uncles, and 34 cousins. She is preceded in death by her cousin Jarren Poaikealoha Tuitele. Eve continues to give. Many of her tissues and records have been donated to CDG research; we hope this gift will help develop treatments for this currently incurable disease. In lieu of flowers, we encourage donations to CDG CARE, a nonprofit providing support and resources for children and families affected by CDG.
