Harold "Hal" K. Hooper Obituary HOOPER. Harold K. "Hal" (Age 84) Hal was born May 21, 1937 to L. Everett and Euphia Hooper in Medford, Oregon, and passed away at home in Spokane August 3, 2021 . He was raised in Boise Idaho; Pendleton, Oregon; Idaho Falls, Idaho, where he participated in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts as well as DeMolay. He graduated from Idaho Falls High School where he was President of the Senior Class of 1955, captain of the football team, captain of the baseball team, and lettered in basketball. He was a member of the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve for 8 years. Hal attended the University of Washington where he played one year of football for the Huskies and was a member of Theta Chi Fraternity. He and his wife, Barbara, (also a Husky) were enthusiastic rooters for UW their entire lives, though they also rooted for WSU (except when they played the Huskies), where their 3 children and 3 of their grandchildren graduated. After college, Hal went to work for the Bon Marche where he spent the next 30 years, the last 24 of which he was the Operations Manager of the Spokane store as well as the manager of the Bon Marche building. He was an avid sports fan, which was his main source of entertainment, especially watching his grandchildren compete in basketball, soccer, volleyball, track, football and tennis. He hardly ever missed an event in all of the years of competition. Hal was an avid rooter for the Seahawks and the Mariners. He also was interested in genealogy, playing his guitar, hunting, fishing, cooking, wood carving and making walking sticks from his own grown trees and bushes. He and his wife lived in the Mt. Spokane foothills for the last 51 years where they thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors and horses. They also were advanced collectors of Early American Pattern Glass and accumulated over 2000 pieces of glass that are on display throughout their home. Some of his most enjoyable times were those spent with his family, especially at the Nelson summer home at Priest Lake. Hal is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Barbara, and his children Kelly Wilcox (Darrell) of Spokane, Kerry Nelson (Dave) of Colbert, and Ken Hooper (Cindy) of Bakersfield, CA, and grandchildren, Ryan Wilcox (Lauren), Tyler Wilcox (Hannah), Blake Nelson (Ryann), Megan Nelson, Mackenzie Hooper, and great grandchildren Sierra, Colton, Dashiell, Oliver, Crew, and Hudson. Preceded in death by two sisters, Marcia Flomer, and Cheryl Olsen.
