Hazel Ford

August 01, 1930 - January 01, 2023

Hazel Ford Obituary Hazel (Gaines) Ford 8/1/1930 -1/1/2023 (Age 92) Hazel started her new year by peacefully slipping into her glorious Heavenly home. We want to thank the staff at Hospice House of Spokane and Deaconess Hospital (Tower, 11th Floor) for the kind and compassionate care Mom received during those last two weeks of her earthly journey. Hazel was born to Craig and Mona Gaines in Bunker, MO, the middle child of 7 children. They moved to Spokane when she was a young girl, and she lived here the rest of her life. Hazel worked in various jobs through the years of her first marriage to Chuck Thompson and until her marriage to Dr. Richard Ford in 1965. For the next 30 years she was his partner, working beside him every day managing the dental practice. Hazel was known for her ready smile and caring spirit. A room lit up when she walked in. She was sincerely interested in everyone's story, and when engaging with friends and family she was the best listener. The doorways to her heart and home were always open. Hazel loved nothing more than preparing meals for family celebrations. She was an avid sports fan who also loved discussing the current stats for Cougs, Zags, Seahawks, and Mariners. As recently as this fall, Hazel was on the sidelines of her great-granddaughter's softball games, and even in her final days, she was asking those caring for her about their sports team preferences and favorite players. Hazel is survived by her brother, Vern Gaines (Poulsbo, WA); children John (KayeJean) Thompson, Jim (Holly) Thompson and Charlene (Guy) Hombel, all of Spokane, WA.; five grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, one great-great grandson; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Craig and Mona; her stepfather Claude Thompson; husband Richard Ford, DDS; son Rich Ford Jr.; stepdaughters Cindy Moss and Shelly Ford; sisters Dale Bell and Alma Larkin; brothers Bud, Lloyd, and Jimmy Gaines. A service and celebration of Hazel's life will be at 11 A.M. on January 20, at Spokane Valley Nazarene Church. 15515 E 20th, Spokane Valley, WA.
