Iris Alvera Nitz Obituary Iris Nitz, 82 years old, a long-time Spokane resident, passed away at home on October 30, 2023 in the company of her loving family. A celebration of life for Iris will be held on December 9th, 11:30 am at the Heritage Funeral Home, 508 N Government Way, Spokane, WA. Iris was born in Canora, Saskatchewan on July 14, 1941 to her parents Andrew and Alvera. She immigrated to the U.S. in 1957 and finished her senior year of high school, part of the year at Cheney High and the rest at Lewis and Clark in Spokane. After high school, Iris went to work for Pixie Pin Ups and traveled the country taking pictures of children for JC Penney. In 1965, Iris married Roger Nitz who was stationed at Fairchild air force base. Later that year, she had her only child, Melissa. In 1976, Iris became an American Citizen, something she worked diligently for and was very proud of. For many years, Iris worked for District 81 in food service at Ferris High School and touched the lives of many a student with her baking skills. Iris was a wonderful daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and nana. Her family meant the world to her. She and Roger loved to take the grandkids camping and enjoyed many adventures at Sprague Lake and Clear Lake. Christmas was one of Iris�s favorite holidays. Her signature red and white themed decorations inside, an array of lights outside, along with a delicious prime rib dinner, made Christmas extra special. Besides Christmas, Iris welcomed friends and family with open arms on all occasions and was a constant source of love and support for all. Iris was predeceased by husband Roger in 2020. She is survived by Melissa Curryer (Alan); grandchildren Erika Clark, Caitlin Ballou, Brandon Curryer (Brenna) and Adam Curryer (Jenny) and five great grandchildren: Judith and Isaac Clark, Chloe Hill and Austin and Jacob Curryer.
