Ivan H.M. Zarling

Ivan H.M. Zarling Obituary Ivan Herbert Martin Zarling was born on September 21, 1926, in Rockfield, Wisconsin to Rudolph and Elsie Mueller Zarling at his parent�s farm. Ivan graduated from Doctor Martin Luther High School in New Ulm, Minnesota, in 1944 and from Northwestern College in 1949. In college, he lettered in baseball and basketball and was a member of the college choral group. He graduated form Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Seminary in 1952 and was a pastor at Grace Lutheran Church in Burke, South Dakota, and Shadle Park Lutheran Church in Spokane, Washington. He was married to the love of his life, Donna Eide on June 22, 1956 in Burke, South Dakota. Ivan was Assistant to the Director of Public Works and Utilities Department and Director of Human Resources for the City of Spokane, Washington. In 1968, he became Director of Human Resources and Vice President for Business and Finance at Eastern Washington University. Ivan was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church for 59 years where he served on the Church Council and Board of Elders. He loved to sing in the church choir. Ivan was an avid sports fan, both to watch and play. He loved to golf and his favorite game to watch was baseball as he played baseball throughout his youth and in college. Ivan passed away at the age of 95 surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Donna, and his three daughters, Meredith (husband Evan Greger), Susan (Tracy Poffenroth), and Jill (Brian Kenkman). He is also survived by his brother, Rudolph Zarling, Jr., and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded into death by his parents and an infant son.
