“The greatest man we ever knew. The first man we ever loved.”

Phil was born in San Francisco to Charlotte McKittrick Martin and welcomed by his three adoring sisters, Bev, Frannie and Rosie. He attended St. Pacal’s grade school and Gonzaga Prep, He later married his high school sweetheart and our mother, Mary Jane Soriano, quickly growing their family to 9.

Phil worked for Kaiser Mead for 20+ years until the plant closed, leading to him landing his dream job as a correctional officer for the Washington State Dept. of Corrections, all the while maintaining his barber license and cutting hair of friends and family. He was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus, the Eagles, and three different singing groups, where he found his love for music. Phil was a lover of the outdoors, animals, and people and made long-lasting friendships wherever he went.

Phil later married Lori Kirschmeyer, making many memories in their travels before her passing in 2009. He then connected with an old friend, Pamela Comstock, becoming inseparable partners, and soulmates for life until her passing in 2021.

Phil is survived by his children, Pamela (Jerry), Ric (Tina), Mari (Johnny), Kathleen (Ray), Deborah, Michael, and Lisa (John); sister, Rose (Paul); 26 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
