March 30, 1929 - May 13, 2019
Joanne Alice Lindley Obituary Joanne Alice Lindley, age 90, stepped into the Glory of the Lord on May 13, 2019. Joanne was born March 30, 1929 to Ruth and Thomas Guy Lawson, in Roseburg Oregon. She was the youngest sister to Abbie, Gail, and Donald. Joanne grew up on the farm in Camas Valley, and adored her older sister Abbie. She helped her mother with farm work and selling eggs and cream at the Creamery downtown. The family sold the farm and moved to Tigard Oregon when she was 13. The Tigard farm was only six acres, and after Donald went into the Navy, Joanne took on more farm chores. She enjoyed the gardening, but told her dad that she would only milk the cow at night, she didnt want to go to school smelling like a cow. During WWII, Joanne went to California to see her older sister, and stayed for the summer when she was 16. She worked at the local Big Boy Grocery as a cashier. She was the only employee in the evenings, and closed up the store, putting the money from the registers into a leather bag and into the basement freezer before leaving on the last bus, back to Abbies apartment in Pacific Grove. Joanne married John Lindley March 13, 1947, in Tigard, Oregon. They had three children; Marvin, Vicki, and Debi. They moved to the Spokane Valley 1958, where Joanne lived for 61 years. Joanne enjoyed gardening and working in her yard. She was especially fond of her roses. When she moved to an apartment, she planted roses and tomatoes in their flower beds. She was also passionate about second hand stores, and antique shops. She always said that she must have inherited her fathers dickering gene. Her favorite pastime was to check out small out of the way shops and stores, just to see if she could find a bargain. Joannes favorite pastime during her last few years was quilting, and she was quite the prolific quilter. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as many friends, have quilts as reminders of her friendship. Joanne was always involved in her local church and was quick to acknowledge Gods work and provision in her life. She was a happy and energetic part of the senior citizens groups at church, and always was ready for an outing or a road trip. Joanne was preceded in death by her parents, brothers and sister. She is survived by Debi (Dave) Bronson Anchorage, Vicki (Vern) Scoggin Spokane, and Marvin (Janet) Lindley Nampa, plus 7 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. A celebration of Joannes life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 22 at The Intersection Church, 905 N McDonald Rd, Spokane Valley, WA. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Joanne, please visit our Tree Store.
