JoAnne, age 97, passed away on August 21,2024. She was born in Spokane on August 24,1926 to George and Anna Nikotich. JoAnne was raised in Spokane with one brother, Sam Nikotich and three sisters, Gina Miller, Sue Weipert and Ruby Wohrle. She graduated from Rogers High School in 1944. In 1948 she married Neil Prior when he returned from serving in the army during WWII. They had a daughter Susan (Ryan) and a son Richard. JoAnne was a devoted mother and homemaker. Her volunteer work included teaching Sunday School and was involved in PTA as her children grew up. During the late sixties she worked in the men’s department of the Crescent. While her husband Neil was a Lilac Festival Director she served as a chaperone for the Lilac Queen and Princesses. A highlight for JoAnne was taking her mother, Anna, back to Norway to visit her relatives. She will be remembered for love of family, making family dinners, birthdays and holiday celebrations special. She enjoyed flowers and gardening and her grandchildren enjoyed many summer days around grandma’s pool in her beautiful back yard. JoAnne is survived by daughter Susan (Randy) Ryan, son Richard (ShirLe’) Prior, five grandchildren, Anne (Kobie) Hatcher, Chris (Nichole) Ryan, Ashlund, Kylund, Daylund Prior, three great-grandchildren, Emma Boyden, Blake and Miles Ryan. Also nieces Carol and Cindy Miller, Sharon Roman, Shelly Jacobs, nephews Steve and Byron Miller and Jim (Kathy) Chorey. May her legacy of kindness and love be reflected in all of us. JoAnne will be placed to rest at a Graveside Ceremony at Fairmount Memorial Cemetery September 6, 2024 at 12:30. Memorial contributions of your choice can be given in her name.
