Judith "Judy" L. Gross (1940 - 2024)

Judith “Judy” L. Gross, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2024, at the age of 84. Judy was born on January 22, 1940 in Spokane, Washington to Laura and Lynn Olmstead.

Judy is survived by her sons, Mark and John, her daughter Sherri, and her siblings Lyle W. Olmstead, and Larry E. Olmstead. Her husband, Gary, preceded her in death, as did her parents, Lynn Olmstead and Laura Anderson and sister Gloria A. Olmstead.

Judy’s life was filled with remarkable moments. As a child, she delighted in dancing by herself, and her infectious laugh would later become a hallmark of her personality. She graduated from Rogers High School in Spokane, proudly cheering for the Pirates.

Early in adulthood Judy worked at the Davenport Hotel’s coffee shop and married Gary Gross. Together, they embarked on adventures as an Air Force couple, traveling across states and even to Puerto Rico. Judy’s warm spirit and love for family made her a devoted homemaker along with being a Seahawks and Gonzaga basketball fan. Of special note is how she adored her fur-babies and how much they loved her.

Judy’s faith was unwavering; she was a Baptist with a strong Christian foundation. Her memory was remarkable, and she often reminded family members of important details. Whenever we were talking with Mom about things we were worried about, she would listen and say, "it will all come out in the wash". That was her way of assuring us that things would turn out OK in the end. She really was an optimist!

Her interests were diverse: snowmobiling with the Winter Knights Club, singing in Sweet Adelines, and attending Barbershop Harmony Society events alongside Gary. She enjoyed biking, walking, and volunteering, always giving back to her community. Her favorite purchases later in life were to buy flowers for her loved ones and to treat them to an afternoon coffee drink.

A memorial service to honor Judy’s life was held on Tuesday, August 13, at 1:30 pm in the chapel at Heritage Funeral Home, 508 N. Government Way, Spokane, followed by a graveside service at Greenwood Memorial Terrace at 2:30 pm.

Let us remember Judy for her laughter, kindness, and the joy she brought to those around her.
