Julienne Zimmerman, born October 12, 1942, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2025. Originally from North Dakota, Julie spent most of her life in Spokane, Washington surrounded by those she loved. A beloved mother, grandmother, sister and dear friend, Julie touched the lives of all who knew her with warmth, kindness and grace.
She was a devoted mother to Jen and Brad, and a constant presence in the life of her grandchildren, Noah and Zoe, who brought her endless joy. She is also survived by her two brothers, Bill and Jerry as well as her sister’s Linda, Jean and chosen sister, Maxine. Her gentle spirit and generous heart made her a cherished presence in the lives of her family, friends and community. She made others feel seen and loved and her light will be deeply missed.
Julie was a gifted musician, vocalist, composer and teacher. She had a seemingly magical ability to guide young children to produce the most amazing musicals and instrumental performances. Her classroom was often a haven for students who struggled to succeed in the classroom; finding that music was the place they could shine.
Julie’s other love was her garden where she found peace among blooming flowers and the changing seasons. Coaxing life where others would fail, her garden was always overflowing with beauty.
She was kind, smart, creative, independent, sweetly stubborn, and the best of people. She was always ready to laugh, a wonderful listener, and had a sweet tooth like no other. She leaves behind family and friends who adored her and a legacy of sacrificial love that will live on in their hearts.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Young Musicians Education Program through the Spokane Symphony.
