Katherine (Kathy) Town, 93, of Spokane, Washington, peacefully passed away at Hospice House South on April 22, 2025, with her dear son, Bruce, by her side. Kathy was born to Ward and Delia Roberts on April 10, 1932, in Toledo, Ohio. She had one sister, Harriet, who was seven years old when Kathy was born.
The family moved to Sauk Center, Minnesota, when Kathy was five. She had a happy childhood, often spending time near one of the many lakes in Minnesota. When she was seventeen, Kathy's father retired from J.C. Penney. Seeking to be closer to extended family, they moved to Spokane. Here, Kathy attended Rogers High School, where she thrived in various activities and took on the role of a cheerleader, showcasing her enthusiastic spirit.
Kathy met the love of her life, Wayne Town, when she was eighteen at a “Sweetheart Dance.” They married a year later and celebrated 68 wonderful years of marriage in 2019. Wayne and Kathy had one beloved son, Bruce Town. Wayne, Kathy, and Bruce were longtime congregants at Fourth Memorial Church, where they collectively accepted the Lord as their Savior.
Kathy volunteered at Hospice to help a friend when she was first married, which led to a lifelong love of helping others. She volunteered for thirty-one years at Sacred Heart Hospital in the Service League, helping families in the ICU and Cardiac ICU, as well as serving on various committees at the hospital. Kathy enjoyed bowling and was an active member of a league at Imperial Lane. She also participated in the Ladies Nine-hole groups at both Downriver and Sundance Golf Courses. Additionally, Kathy was a longstanding member of the Indian Trail Garden Club, where she experienced many wonderful moments, especially with her best friend, Mary Jane Jarboe. Kathy and her friends formed lifelong bonds while playing bridge, and even after they stopped playing cards, they continued to meet for monthly lunches.

Wayne retired from National Music Service in 1997 and shortly thereafter had a heart attack. Kathy lovingly cared for him for the next twenty-two years until his death in 2019.
Kathy dearly cherished her family and friends, who were a significant part of her life. Among them, Candice Payne, Stephanie Coder-Spanger, and Jeanne Ryan held a special place in her heart and were like daughters to her. She loved them so much.
Kathy is survived by her dear son, Bruce Town, and her nephews, Patrick Payne, Jeff, and Brian Town, along with numerous other nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in
death by her beloved husband, Wayne Town, her parents, Ward and Delia Roberts, and her sister, Harriet Payne.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Hospice of Spokane for their compassionate care over the last three years of Kathy's life.
