Lavern Franklin Rodgers Obituary Lavern Franklin Rodgers, lovingly called Dad, Daddy, PeePaw, Grandpa, and Rodgers sensei passed to his new life on August 18, 2022 at 95 years old. He is survived by his three children with his first wife, Evelyn: Jerusha Dougharty, Jonathan (Angela) Rodgers, Belinda (David) Smith, along with eight grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by his stepchildren of his second wife, Clara: Lenora (Joe) Morgan, Debby (Larry) Henderson, David (Joyce) Marsden, and Becky (Jimmy) Pounds. Clara had nine grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and nine great great-grandchildren. Lavern is preceded in death by his wives, Evelyn Minshew Rodgers and Clara Wilhite Marsden Rodgers, his parents, Burleigh and Lillian Rodgers, and by his brother, Bernie Rodgers. Lavern Rodgers was born in Dallas, Texas on July 25, 1927. He later moved to San Antonio, where he grew up. He was granted a high school diploma from Breckinridge High School in 1945 after he was drafted at age eighteen and served eleven months in the Navy at the close of WWII. Lavern graduated from Baptist Bible Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas in 1948. Lavern Rodgers was a prolific preacher and missionary. He went to Japan at age 22 in 1950 with his new wife, Evelyn, after hearing God�s call in the Navy. Then when he heard Gen. MacArthur�s plea for missionaries to minister to the people of Japan, he knew that was where God was leading him to serve. He was one of the founders of the Japan Baptist Bible Fellowship (JBBF) and the Japan Baptist Bible College (JBBC). Lavern was instrumental in starting 13 base churches, 30 extension churches, and 12 churches overseas that are pastored by 12 Japanese missionaries. He also taught at the JBBC for over 25 years. His final ministry of love was the Grace Bible Camp in the beautiful Nagano mountain area, where many young people and children have made decisions to follow the Lord Jesus.
