Loretta Moon Obituary Our beloved Mother, Loretta Marie Moon, passed away on January 13, 2024 at age 71. She went to our Heavenly Father at Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane, Washington surrounded by loved ones. She was born to George Edmond Moon Sr. and Eva Louise McKelvey on January 22, 1952. Loretta was the youngest girl of the family with two older sisters and one younger brother. Loretta grew up in the Spokane Valley and enjoyed being involved in swimming and shooting competitions. As an adult, Loretta had a close relationship with her sisters Janece and Margaret, and her brother, George. They would often get together for special occasions. Loretta graduated from Central Valley high school in 1970. She then moved on to Big Bend Community College and in 1974 received two Associates degrees in liberal Arts and Applied Science. At Eastern Washington State College, Loretta graduated with her Bachelors degree in Recreation Administration and Therapeutic Recreation. She also lettered in Rifle club. Loretta was married to William R. Rose from 1976 to 1989. They had four girls together, Charlie, Julie, Jennifer, and Nicolle. After they divorced, they still worked as a team to raise their girls. Loretta worked as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist for 30 years at Eastern State Hospital, first at the aquatic therapy pool and later on the wards. She was known for her dancing and singing through the Hospital, always in a joyful mood. She always had a light-hearted joy she shared with those around her. She was also well known at various area pools because of her love of teaching and swimming. She loved the water. She taught American Red Cross courses and trained numerous lifeguards through the years. After retiring, Loretta volunteered for Spokane Parks and Recreation. She found renewed purpose there. She assisted with groups such as cooking classes, craft classes, and a drum circle. She was also a swim coach for the Blue Dolphins Special Olympics Learn to Swim program. Loretta was very proud of the swimmers she taught. She would be brimming with happiness when a swimmer who was afraid at the beginning of lessons could go under water and find joy there. She always gave her students the confidence and love they needed to succeed. Lorettas favorite quote was taken from a wise fish who said, Just Keep Swimming. The quote will be included on her memorial bench. Loretta was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She had a strong testimony in the love of her Heavenly Father. Loretta enjoyed her time at church and made many lifelong friends there. She loved working in nursery and teaching the children lessons on faith. She would always make lessons extra fun with homemade crafts and would write letters to mail to the children in her classes. Loretta would always say, Who doesnt love mail?! Loretta is survived by her two sisters, Janece (Duane) Scheele, Margaret (Steve) Miller, her brother George Moon Jr., four daughters, Charlie (Jeremy) Wright, Julie Rose, Jennifer (Nick Cresswell) Rose, Nicolle (Steve) Bennett, 12 grandchildren, and four fur babies.
