Marguerite Ivonne (Armstrong) Young passed on January 22, 2024, at St. Joseph's Care Center in Spokane Washington. Born to Orley D and Ada Evelyn Armstrong on June 12, 1923, at Deaconess Hospital in Spokane. Marguerite was a bright young lady with many interests and a family musical background. She played the base-violin in her father's orchestra, "The Rhythm Masters." They occasionally performed at the Orpheum Theatre. At a young age, she had her own pet deer named Jack at her grandfather's store in the 4th of July Canyon, Idaho. She met and married Richard Walker McNamara and they had a son. The marriage was not destined to last. Throughout her adult life she had several interests. She gained a pilot's license for light aircraft. She taught ballet, tap dancing and acrobatics for Maxine Doty and later in her own studio. She helped with Spanish and Ballroom dancing for the Rene School of Dance. As part of the Spokane Civic Theatre staff, she directed "Bells Are Ringing," and was active with other productions. One of her many employment experiences was handling outpatient insurance at Holy Family Emergency Room. She would often hear a familiar voice on the Police radio in the ER. In 1965, she met and eventually married Ray Allen Young, a very highly respected Spokane Police Officer. He was affectionally known as the "Voice of Howard and Riverside." Marguerite then started volunteering at the Spokane Police Front Desk, later transferring to the Sheriff's Desk. After thirteen wonderful years, she lost Ray, but has remained loyal to his memory. Throughout her life, she always had one or more dogs to show or for companionship. She was well respected in the Pomeranian, Chihuahua, and Yorkshire Terrier communities. One of her fondest memories was the brief time she spent in Santa Barbara and the beautiful mission. She had a bird house that was crafted in the form of the Santa Barbara mission by her son. She would show it to everyone, and it never saw a bird. Some of her other interests included Metal Detecting, Painting, listening to the Mormon Tabernacle Organ and several years with Ray at their float house on Lake Pend Oreille. Marguerite was a member of several faiths throughout her life, most recently the Crestline Baptist Church. In her earlier years, she enjoyed singing in the various choirs. She was a loyal disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ. Marguerite is survived by her son, Dennis McNamara; Grandchildren Raymond, Anthony, Kevin, and Kimberly Backman; Great Grand Children Shelby, Jordan, Jayanna, Justice, Eli, Nico and Kirby; with a Great- Great Grandchild on the way.
