Mary Lou Appia Obituary On Friday, October 8, 2021, Mary Appia, devoted wife, and mother of 7 children, passed away at the age of 83. She joined her husband George, and two sons, George and Rick who preceded her in death. Born in Big Springs, Nebraska to a family of 11, Mary became a military spouse upon marriage on October 20, 1958. Her marriage was a beautiful love story based firmly on love, respect, and caring communication. She traveled the world with her family and they eventually settled in Medical Lake for 11 years to raise her children, and then Spokane, Washington. Over the years, she stayed in touch weekly with her grown children, sisters, grandchildren and other family members to remain connected, as family was at her core. Later in life she became an avid sports fan and adept at playing video games on her iPad. She faithfully followed the Seattle Seahawks and Mariners and could spend hours watching her favorite sports teams. She also enjoyed using her iPad to play card games and slot machines in order to keep her mind sharp. In her final years, Mary became a medical miracle. Over 5 years ago she was given only two weeks to live by doctors. Not accepting that diagnosis, she happily and thankfully proved the medical professionals wrong, and became only the fifth person to walk out of Hospice North in August of 2016. Mary had always been inspiring, but even more so in her later years for her strength, courage, and devotion to family. She is survived by her five children: Michael, Crystal, Chris, Robert and Ann; sons & daughters-in-law: Scott, Janey, Robin, Robert, Eric; foster child Silvia Marquez and family; 4 sisters: Irene, Susie, Margie and Tillie and 2 brothers: Sil and Sal. Eleven grandchildren: Stefanie, Brianna, Porshea, Richard Jr, Alan, Chanel, Chandler, Josh, Slava, Sofia, Ryan and 7 great grandchildren: Senaia, Asea, Korii, Nivaeh, Jeremy, Markus and Bellamy.
