Maxine K Simmons

Maxine K Simmons Obituary Maxine K. Simmons , age 85 passed away on June 2, 2022 with her family by her side. Maxine was born January 15, 1937 in Torrington, WY to Louie E. and Beth M. (Withers) Goodwin. She was the second of five children and spent most of her early years in Mabton, WA. In 1953 Maxine married Roger N. Harris Sr., they had five children. In 1989, she married Olen Simmons and they resided in Wenatchee, WA until moving to Chewelah, WA in 1994. Maxine was a talented seamstress and made many of her daughter�s clothes and countless doll clothes. She was very creative, making costumes for her kids for school plays, parades and Halloween. She also crocheted for most of her life, creating many doilies and afghans until she could no longer hold the thread and hook due to advancing Parkinson�s disease. Maxine was also a talented woodworker after learning to use the lathe in her fifties. She made many beautiful containers and amazing miniature pots and bowls. Maxine loved to share her work with others and took great satisfaction in gifting her extraordinary pieces to family and friends. She and Olen both loved long drives enjoying nature and hunting rocks. They took many trips in their camper, but always liked coming home to their property in Chewelah where they enjoyed feeding hummingbirds & wildlife and gazing at the amazing views from their deck. Maxine was preceded in death by her husband, Olen in 2016, her parents, and her brother Wendall Goodwin. She is survived by her children, Roger Jr. (Kathy), Gary, Vicki (Gary) Steen, Mark (Pam) and Curtis; grandchildren Christopher (Patience) Harris (Harmony-June), Audrey Harris, Stephanie (Dan) McCurry (Isabel, Evangeline, and Vivienne), Jeff (Jessica) Harris (Judah, Ezra, and Leah), Amelia (Sawyer) Werner, Natalie Harris and Timothy Harris; sisters Barbara (Bob) Harris, Sharon (Jerry) Kollmar, and Lynn (Richard) Desmarias and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at Angelic Adult Family Home in Colbert, WA for their kind and loving care of Maxine; and Hospice of Spokane for their attentiveness in her last days.
