Mieko Flowers Obituary Loving wife and mother Mieko (Wauke) Flowers February 22, 1932 - February 18, 2023 Mieko was in the final stages of dementia when she tested positive for Covid on February 5, 2023 and admitted to Deaconess Medical Center. She was released to her home under the care of Horizon Hospice of Spokane on February 16, 2023. On February 18, 2023 four days before her 91st birthday she was surrounded by family as she took her final breath. She was the fifth of six siblings born in Saipan, Northern Mariana Islands. Mieko was repatriated by US military forces to Okinawa, Japan in 1946. It was there she met Bill Flowers while working as a seamstress on Kadena Air Force Base. The couple married and later that year received orders to Larson Air Force Base in Moses Lake, Washington. Mieko was highly creative. She enjoyed painting, cake decorating, gardening, and crafting, but was highly renowned for her sewing skills. She attended tailoring school and received certification as a seamstress/tailor and pattern drafter. She was always in demand to draft and make clothing. She designed and made quilts, mens suits, wedding dresses, and winter coats to name a few. In 1970 she was recruited to design and make the gowns for the Medical Lake Lilac Princesses. Her love of design allowed her to teach her craft at many of the local community centers. She also made and donated hundreds of stuffed animals to the childrens hospital. She was a fierce competitor and loved a challenge. You could always find her challenging her grandkids to race her. She was in her late 70s when she ran her first Bloomsday. She loved it and was always asking when she could do it again. Mieko is survived by her husband, William V Flowers (Bill), daughters, Evelyn Flowers, Laura Soto, and son, David Flowers. Grandchildren, Staycee Graham, Antonio and Will Soto, Theron Flowers, Josie Owens, Jayda and Mallory Flowers. Two great grandsons, Amari and Jamal Thomas.
