Nanette W. Morton

September 18, 1927 - August 13, 2022

Nan Obituary Nanette W Morton (Nan), 94, of Spokane WA passed away on August 13, 2022, surrounded by loving family members and her wonderful and loving care team from Puritys Calico Cottage 4. Nan was born in Cloquet MN on September 18, 1927 to parents Andy and Doris Benson. She grew up in Lewistown MT, graduating from high school 1945 and from Seattle University/Providence School of Nursing with an RN degree in 1948. She started her nursing career in Spokane where she met Lester C McEachran. They were married in San Francisco in March 1951, returned to Spokane, and daughter Heidi June was born in March 1952. Les became ill and died in September of 1952. Nans nursing work and close family and friends helped pull her through this difficult time. She married Leo Morton and had three more children, Holli in 1954, Todd in 1957 and Scott in 1959. She stepped away from nursing to raise her four active children. She was a wonderful mother, instilling in all her children the importance of higher education, a good work ethic and love and support for one another. She was active in PTA, Girl Scouts, and Cub Scouts. She loved to be with her family, skiing in the winter and spending summers on Coeur dAlene Lake on the family boat. In 1975 Nan went back to nursing and was one of the first Spokane women to earn the advanced degree of Nurse Practitioner, specializing in womens healthcare. She worked in that field until she retired at age 70. Many young mothers in the 1980s in North Spokane knew Nan as their Lamaze teacher. When family and career responsibilities required less focus, luckily Nan had a passion for two other activities, gardening and golf. These pasttimes carried her through her last years of work and into her retirement years with lots of beautiful flowers and vegetables to share and lots of friends to gather with, as she moved to Kent WA in 1990 and Oceanside CA in 1997. In 2015 she returned to Spokane to be closer to her daughter in Spokane, sons in the Puget Sound area and daughter in Oregon. Nan was preceded in death by her father, mother, and both husbands, as well as her sister Bette Lou Tilton and brother Lee Ernest Benson. She is survived by Sister-in-law Carol Benson, her four children, Heidi Libby (Cal), Holli Morton (Jim Siano), Todd Morton (Deborah) and Scott Morton (Jackie), 6 grandchildren, Charlie Libby(Jayme), Tanya Libby-Chabot (Bennett), Ashlyn Binckley (Bernie), Amanda Ahrens (Kyle), Tyler Morton and Makenna Morton, 2 great grandchildren, and 3 nieces and a nephew. The family wants to give a special thanks for the loving care provided by the team at Puritys Calico Cottage #4, Jane, Winsome, Shawn, and Vincent, and also the team of support provided by Horizon Hospice. A graveside memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 1, 2022, at Riverside Memorial Park at 508 N. Government Way, Spokane at 12:30pm.
