Nigel Christopher Geary Obituary Few men can be called honorable. Few men can be called loyal. Few men can claim to love their children perfectly, to have unbreakable faith, or to have ever really lived at all instead of just existing. And fewer men can be all these things, and remain humble. Nigel Christopher Geary was such a man. He made an impression on all he met, and will always be a hero to those who knew him best. On September 9th, 2020 he was received into heaven, leaving those whose lives he touched to wish for more moments with him. Nigel was born on February, 1st, 1962 in Ewell, Surrey, England to John Keith Malcolm Geary and Jean Gwendoline Geary. He emigrated with his family to the U.S. at the age of 1, travelling to New York City on the Queen Elizabeth ship, and from New York City to Utah by bus. He and his family lived in Utah and Oregon during his dad's university years before settling in the Cheney, WA area when he was 8. At Cheney High School, Nigel excelled in football, theater, and choir activities and was an excellent student. He served a church mission in Santiago, Chile, and later earned a Bachelor's Degree at Brigham Young University and a Master's Degree at Western Oregon University. He was very outgoing and always enjoyed making new friends, even as a young child, a quality he continued to possess and develop throughout his life. He was known for his love of people, even strangers, and could brighten someones day with his laugh and smile. He was often the best-known and most popular member of the Geary family in the places they lived throughout his childhood, as he was so engaging and gregarious. From adolescence into adulthood, Nigel had a passion for the performing arts, acting in and directing plays, and exercising his tremendous vocal talent. In many ways, even though he was a warrior against darkness in his life, he shined. But never more than when he sang. His voice could fill a cathedral, and was powerful and pure. He passed on his passion for music to his children, and his voice will live on in theirs. Nigel is survived by his 4 children, Michael Christopher, Lisa Marie, Johnathan Keith Malcolm, and Jacob Bradford. He also leaves behind his mother Jean, his brother Paul, and his sister Alyson. Nigel is a grandfather to Amiya, Kyson, Quinnton, and Iris, but is also a father and grandfather figure to many others in his life. His children remember him best for his love of others, his incredible work ethic, his rock-and-roll attitude to life, and how his character shines through in each one of them individually. How he helped them succeed in life, despite the occasional best effort to learn by experience. How he sang to them as children and bounced them on his knee. How he loved each of them, requiring nothing, and was completely unrestrained in his praise and admiration, seeking first for them to know, in every stage of life, of his unconditional and complete love for them. And they remember how the best feeling in their young world was how he held them as they laid their head on his shoulder, and the comfort he could always give with his warm embrace. They eagerly look forward to receiving him in this way again, someday, in the life after this. A viewing will be held in Nigels honor at Heritage Funeral Home in Spokane on Friday, September 25th from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Because of COVID-19 concerns, there is limited space for people to attend the viewing. Please email Alyson Geary, at ageary2013@gmail.com, if you would like to attend. Nigels funeral and burial in Greenwood Memorial Terrace will take place on Saturday, September 26th, and will be limited to family members only. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Nigel, please visit our Tree Store
