Olive L McCoury Obituary On Saturday, August 21, 2021 Olive Lorraine McCoury, loving wife and mother, passed away peacefully surrounded by family in her home at the age of 89. Olive was born on June 28, 1932 to Herb and Anne Davidson in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. She grew up in her familys home with her sisters, Adele and Elizabeth. After high school she worked as a telephone operator for Canada Bell Telephone and advanced to lead shift operator and was even featured in print advertising for the company. Olive met her husband, Melvin Wayne McCoury, Jr., when visiting her sister Beth in Oceanside, California. Olive and Melvin married on September 4, 1954. They had three daughters and Olive often had to raise them on her own while Melvin was deployed overseas. She was proud to be a Marine Corps wife and accepted all the challenges associated with that responsibility with strength and grace. After Melvin retired from the Marine Corps, they returned to Cheney, Washington. They purchased Community Properties Real Estate in Airway Heights and both were members of the Spokane Association of Realtors for many years. They both enjoyed spending their free time together at the lake in their RV and fishing. Olive became a United States citizen in 1974. From that time forward she proudly participated in elections and was passionate about politics, especially towards the end of her life. She vowed she would live long enough to vote her choices in the 2020 elections, and typical for her, she succeeded at what she set out to do. Olive was an active volunteer. She was recognized multiple times for her work with The Navy Relief Society. Both Melvin and Olive were active members of the Airway Heights Lions Club and Olive also was a volunteer with The Retired Officers Association at Fairchild Air Force base. Olives passions included researching her familys genealogy and was a member of the Eastern Washington Genealogical Society for many years. Olive was an expert doing difficult puzzles. Toward the end of her life, she found pleasure reading and enjoying the view from her porch. Olive was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin, and sisters, Adele and Elizabeth. She is survived by her three daughters, Debbie, Charmaine, and Melanie, six grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 2nd at Heritage Funeral Home at 9:30 am. Graveside service to follow at the Washington State Veterans Cemetery in Medical Lake, Washington, beginning at 11:15am. Donations should be made to Toys for Tots in lieu of flowers. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Olive, please visit our Tree Store.
