Robert Laverne Howard Obituary Robert Laverne Howard, age 84, passed away in Spokane, WA on April 8, 2012. He was born January 17, 1928 in Spokane to Harry and Ryle Howard. Robert graduated from John R. Rogers High School, Eastern Washington College of Education with a Bachelor of Arts Education degree, and Eastern Washington College of Education with a Master of Education degree. His educational career began as an Elementary Teacher at Greenbluff and Whitworth Elementary Schools. He then moved to Shaw Junior High to work as a Counselor. He then served as Dean of Boys at North Central High, and as Senior High Assistant Principal at his alma mater, John Rogers High, and then at North Central High. After spending over 25 years of his career in education, he moved into semi-retirement, working part time for more 20 years as a Department of Defense Area Coordinator for the Youth for Military Service program. When he wasn�t working, Robert�s hobbies included fishing, working on various house projects, and playing tennis. His many achievements included Past President of the Spokane Teachers Credit Union, also serving for over 30 years on STCU�s Board of Directors; Education Honorary Past President of Phi Delta Kappa; Past President of the Spokane County Personnel and Guidance Association; and Past President of the Parent Teacher Association. Robert is survived by children Terry (Karen) Howard of Puyallup, WA, Tim (Ginny) Howard of Spokane, WA, Tami Tedrow-Howard of Renton, WA, grandchildren Melissa Howard, Ryan Howard, Greg Howard, Nick (Katie) Howard, Brooklyn (Steve) Amaro, Jacob (Aileen) Tedrow, Nathan Tedrow, siblings George (Betty) Howard, Merle (Clarice) Howard, Lee (Judy) Howard, Shirley White, Sandy (Ray) Jacobs, brother-in-law Jerry Weber, and sisters-in-law Lita Howard and Lila Howard. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Billie Lorraine Howard, sisters Audrey and Judy, brothers Wayne and Don, and brother-in-law Whitey. The family would like to thank staff at Hospice of Spokane, including Windy, Patricia, Laurie, and Kamila; Dr. Rowbotham; and Family Home Care staff, including caregivers Analisa, Bobbi, Erin, Laurie, Lindsey, Michelle, Sherri, and Timmarie. A memorial service will be held at Heritage Funeral Home on April 21, 2012 at 11 am. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Spokane.
