Official Obituary of Robert Roy Emtman

Robert Roy Emtman, age 91, a dedicated farmer whose life revolved around family, agriculture, and shredding ski slopes, passed away on June 7, 2024. Born on February 10, 1933, in Spokane, Washington, Robert was the cherished son of Roy and Katie Emtman, growing up alongside his siblings, Elizabeth "Liz", Shirley, and Roy Jr.

Robert graduated in 1951 from Lindberg High School in Valleyford. His academic journey continued at Washington State College, culminating in a Bachelors of Science in Agriculture in 1956. Robert often reminisced about his college years, considering them among the best times of his life. He remained a loyal Cougar fan throughout his days.

Following his graduation, Robert returned to the family farm, working alongside his father and younger brother. Robert was devoted to his craft and he thoroughly enjoyed farming with his son Gary. He embraced innovative techniques to enhance crop yields, even in his later years.

On June 20, 1959, he united in marriage with Gloria Lelani Walters at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Spokane. Gloria, a compassionate nurse, embraced motherhood for their beloved children, Gary and Linda.

Beyond the fields, Robert found enjoyment on the snowy slopes, becoming an avid skier during the winter months. His signature "Bob turns", which were long sweeping turns down the mountainside, made him easily identifiable on the slopes, whether skiing locally or venturing to his favorite ski resort Big Sky, Montana.

His infectious humor, optimistic demeanor, and welcoming spirit endeared him to a diverse array of friends who he shared many summers with at lake Couer d'Alene, playing cards and sharing a witty story.

After parting ways with Gloria in 2000, Robert found love anew with Jean Elizabeth Charbulak Durkee. whom he married on October 29, 2002, at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Spokane, where he was a devoted member. Robert's faith served as a guiding light throughout his life.

He cherished his expanded family, including Jean's children: Gregg Durkee and Gwenn Kubik (David), along with their children, Kayla and Kyle. Robe1t's heart overflowed with love for his grandchildren, Alicia and Erin Yoshino, and he rejoiced in the arrival of his great-grandchildren, Elizabeth "Libby" Doramus and Grant Doramus, born on April 25, 2024. Uncle Rob - as he was known to his family - was a devoted uncle to his nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews and a multitude of cousins.

Robert is survived by his dear wife, Jean Durkee-Emtman, his children Gary and Linda, his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brother Roy Jr. (Della), and sister Shirley Keller (Bob). He was preceded in death by his parents, older sister Elizabeth, and first wife, Gloria Emtman.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church or Hospice House of Spokane.

Robert's legacy of devotion to his family, passion for farming, and zest for life will forever be treasured by those whose lives he touched.
