Roberta Ruth (Kinkaid) Phillips Obituary
Roberta Ruth Phillips, 87, passed away peacefully in her home Friday, March 19, 2010. She is survived by her sister Ellise (Punky); daughter Kathy (Kalene); son Ritchie, daughter-in-law
Dianne; grandchildren Brandon (Max), Sam, Maria, Donelle, Rachel and husband Art, Anna and husband Chris, and Nathan. Roberta was blessed with great-grandchildren Jordan, JoyLynn, Isaiah, Elias, Caleb and Corbin and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and lifelong friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Chester, daughter Sandra and twin brother Frank. Roberta was born in Kennewick, WA. She said she was fortunate to be a twin - her brother was the oldest - and she was also close to her younger sister. As a child "she always had someone to play with." After high school, Roberta graduated from Kinman Business University in Spokane and became employed as a bookkeeper. She met Chester Phillips during the time they both worked for a Studebaker dealership. They married in 1956. She also became a wonderful, loving mother - a gift to Chester's three young children. She was the best and was very much loved by a host of family and friends. Roberta's interest in sports was mostly as a spectator and she enjoyed outings at "the lake" with her family. She was often tagged as the scorekeeper for the girls softball team coached by her husband. Bowling was her one participating sport and she bowled in a league for several years. She was a fan of the Spokane Indians Triple A baseball team when they were in Spokane and later became an avid Mariners baseball fan and a Gonzaga U basketball fan. Roberta enjoyed gardening and brightened the neighborhood with planters full of colorful flowers and a beautifully landscaped yard. After working several years for Service Master Carpet Cleaner, changing jobs and then retiring from Insurance Company of North America, she took Bridge lessons. She enjoyed weekly bridge games and the friendships that developed. She was a 50 year/life member of the Spokane Chapter #163 of the Order of the Eastern Star. No funeral services will be held. Donations may be made to Hospice of Spokane.
