Ron Schaefer

January 25, 1942 - December 15, 2020

Ron Schaefer Obituary A lifelong resident of Spokane, Ron Schaefer was born on January 25, 1942. Ron graduated from John R. Rogers High School in 1960 and was a proud member of United Association Local 44 Plumbers and Steamfitters for 59 years. He enjoyed a long career with Robertshaw Controls and retired in 2006 after ten years working for Spokane School District 81. He was an avid outdoorsman who built his closest, most enduring friendships sharing his love for hunting, fishing, and camping. As he grew older he enjoyed shooting his muzzle loading rifle with friends at the Spokane Gun Club and any opportunity to ride his four wheeler or be in the presence of his adoring grandchildren. The path for Rons life was set at age 12 when he met Dianne Angel at Hamilton Elementary School. They would marry in 1961 and continue their love story through a 59 year partnership that included four sons all born before Rons 26th birthday. Ron was the provider and protector and set an example of courage, toughness, dependability, gratitude, and humility for his family. The Schaefer family lived, flourished, overcame mistakes, and built an indestructible bond through the love and support he and Dianne provided. His wit, warm smile, and kind words are gifts that will be long cherished. Ron passed away peacefully on December 15, 2020. True to his nature, with his last words he found strength to comfort Dianne and his heartbroken sons and express his love and gratitude for their contribution to his life. He is survived by his wife Dianne Schaefer, his sons Kent (Michelle), Reed (Nancy), Ryan (Stacy), and Kreg (Denise), his grandchildren Mikala (Boe) Zinter, Robert (Alexa), Riley, Jake, Frankie, Max, Jack, Lexi, Sam (Nicole), and Lindsey (Nick) Naccarato, and five great grandchildren. Uncle Ronny is also survived by his sister Carol (Ross) Yearout and family and his sister-in-law Donna Bondahl (Karl). Big R was always the star of the show, but never stepped onto center stage. He was a very humble man whose demeanor communicated strength in a quiet way. While he lived his life completely for the benefit of the people he loved most, his example most certainly made an impact far beyond his family. He will be immensely missed.
