January 01, 1949 - January 22, 2023
Sandra K Armstrong Obituary Sandra K Armstrong passed away peacefully on January 22,2023 in Spokane, Washington of natural causes. She was surrounded by family at the time of her death. Sandra was born in San Marcos, Texas in 1949 to Terry and Ofelia Armstrong. At an early age, she was diagnosed with developmental disabilities though this did not hamper Sandras abilities to work or live a relatively independent life in a supervised Adult Family Home environment. Due to her fathers military deployment overseas, Sandras mother was instrumental in raising Sandra to be as self-sufficient and independent an adult as possible. Additionally, through her parents influence and direction, Sandra was able to achieve the equivalent of a high school education. Her education was also supported with the assistance of various representatives of Washington States Department of Social and Health Services. She also learned many valuable skills and common-sense techniques from so many mentors that enabled her to navigate through many of her challenges. Sandras joyfulness and quick wit won her many lifelong friends. She was deeply loved by her immediate and extended family. Every person that met her learned something of the importance of tolerance, laughter, kindness, acceptance, love and looking for beauty in lifes little things; things that are often overlooked by others. Her actions and words were a testament to her strong sense of spirituality. Her confidence in accepting ones own mortality and her assuredness that greater things laid ahead is a testament to her faith and trust in God. Sandras parents and stepparents (Flo and Tom) preceded her in death; she is survived by her brother Terry Armstrong/Morna (wife), nephew Michael/Amanda (wife), niece Katie/ Buddy (husband), seven great-nephews and nieces and many cousins. We have all been so fortunate and are truly grateful to include Bob, Pat, Elizabeth, and Garland Hooker as part of our greater family. Sandra will be remembered for many things but one thing she often injected with great enthusiasm is the phrase: I love it, love it, love it! Well, we loved, loved, loved her! And we will truly miss her and are so blessed that she graced our lives. A special thank you goes out to the many Adult Family Home care providers that were part of Sandras daily life over the years, the compassion, support, and encouragement they all provided is so appreciated. A private family burial date is to be determined. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Arc of Spokane in her name. The Arc of Spokane is the leading non-profit agency in the Inland Northwest that provides life-changing support for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Sandra, please visit our Tree Store
