Sharon Shutts Obituary
We regretfully announce the passing of Sharon Rudd Elmer Shutts of Liberty Lake, WA on December 22, 2023, at the age of 74.
Our mother, Sharon, entered this world on March 12, 1949, in Hollywood, CA. She was one of the strongest/most courageous/bravest/kindest women to ever walk this earth and our family was blessed to have her as the head of the family. Sharon graduated from Ferris High School in 1967 and continued her schooling at Washington State University earning a Bachler?s degree in Fashion Merchandising and Business in 1970. After graduation she and James Elmer married and moved around the PNW for Jim?s career.
When Sharon and Jim moved back to Spokane in 1980, she dove into her children, their schooling, and activities. She was the girl scout leader, PTO president, 4H leader and the best Family Manger for all horse and dog shows, girls sporting events and Rob?s baseball games. She was always our biggest cheerleader. During the winter months you could find the family on the ski mountain and in the summer at the family cabin on Lake Coeur d? Alene.
In 2006, she married Richard Shutts, and they found a shared passion in travel and explored new parts of the world together. Throughout their travels they found Israel was a favorite. They walked the streets of Jesus and could literally sense that God himself was present as they both wrote personal notes and tucked them into the Wailing wall. They truly felt at peace in God?s presence.
After she supported and got her 3 children through college and married off, she finally started focusing on herself. She raised a standard black poodle, Phoebe, and together they learned the ropes on how to become a therapy dog. She and Phoebe would visit sick kids in the hospitals and read to children at the local library. She and Richard would continue this passion with two more therapy dogs, Jasmine & Dexter.
Some of Sharon?s most treasured times were spent at the family cabin on Lake Coeur d Alene, or her winter months in Maui.
More recently she dove into volunteering on various community boards; HOA in Liberty Lake, Kamaole, Maui Condo Association, the Cottonwood Bay HOA and the Republican Party. She always embraced a challenge and tackled it head on with compromise and solutions.
Sharon was predeceased in death by her parents Leland and Francis Patricia Rudd. She is survived by her husband Richard Shutts of 17 years, her children: Carolyn (Paul) Lineback, Tina (Alex) Morris and Rob (Abigail) Elmer, grandchildren Megan, Elizabeth & Ian Lineback and Aaron & Darren Morris and her siblings Arthur (Robin) Rudd and Connie Eichenauer and 6 nephews and 2 nieces. She was also stepmom to David Shutts & Kara Rogers and three grandchildren Blake, Evan and Anthony. She was a very proud mother, loving wife and being a grandmother was one of her greatest joys!
Sharon always showed us that it can be better to shine out than to fit in! A motto we hope to emulate and make her proud, her signature tag line was ? Don't look back, you?re not going that way! This mantra will remind us all to remember Sharon fondly and not look back and dwell in regret.
Please consider a donation in Sharon?s name to Newby-Ginning of Post Falls, Idaho, as this veteran organization was important to her and Richard to support veterans and active service members. Donations can be mailed to 570 S. Clearwater Loop, Unit A, Post Falls, ID 83854.
A memorial service will be held at Heritage Funeral Home on Friday, January 12 at 10:00am with a viewing 1 hour prior.
