Stephen Smith Obituary
Steve Smith, 60 years old, passed away from cancer on December 20, 2020 in his home, surrounded by loved ones. He is survived by his wife, Susan C. Smith; his daughter, Hannah, and son, Christian; parents, John G. and Janet C. Smith; his sister, Allison Gingrich (Dan) and nephews, Owen and Porter. Steve was born in Spokane, WA on September 5, 1960 and was the oldest of two children. Steve attended Westview elementary, Salk middle school, and Cusick high school before receiving his Bachelor of Arts at National Labor College. Steve worked 40 years for the Sheet Metal Workers? Local #55. He worked in many capacities working up the ladder as an apprentice, instructor, and training center coordinator. Steve also dedicated his life to ski racing. Growing up, he raced for the Spokane Ski Racing Association (SSRA). As a young adult, he competed in Nastar, Nastar Nationals, and Masters events. He joined the Schweitzer Alpine Racing School (SARS) coaching staff when his two children began ski racing in the early 2000s. He served as SARS? Youth Ski League (YSL) head coach for a couple of years and spent the remainder of his ski career assisting with the event production side of ski races. Steve dedicated countless hours to each race and thoroughly enjoyed his Schweitzer community. Steve?s family would like to thank and extend our sincere appreciation to the ski community for providing so much joy to our amazing father. He will be greatly missed.
Due to the pandemic, funeral services will be limited to the immediate family.
Heritage Funeral & Cremation is in care of arrangements. A memorial will take place in the summer of 2021 to celebrate Steve?s life at Schweitzer.
