Verna Katherine Eucker Obituary (Age 90) Verna Katherine Eucker our earth angel earned her heavenly wings on December 16, 2020 at the age of 90. Verna was born on July 20, 1930 to Reiner and Anna Reiners in Junieta, NE. Growing up on the family farm, Verna, the youngest of six , learned hard work and independence at an early age. Verna graduated from Hastings High School at the age of 16. She attended Kearney State College before transferring to the University of Nebraska Omaha where she graduated with a degree in Nursing in 1952. While working and teaching nursing at University Hospital she met and fell in love with Gene Eucker. They were married on November 22, 1953. They welcomed Cynthia and Jeffrey while living in Omaha. In 1963, the family moved to Spokane, WA where Phillip and Kathleen completed their family. Verna?s life motto was ?What can I do for someone else today?? She was an extremely loving, caring, and generous person who genuinely loved to help people. Verna was a homemaker, volunteer, and caregiver. She volunteered as a school nurse for Spokane District 81, United Way, Lutheran Community Services, Assistants and the YWCA where she was a past President. In 1996, Verna was honored with the YWCA women of Achievement Lifetime award and in 2013 the YWCA Ambassadors Lifetime Achievement Award. Verna was a long-time member of St. Mark?s Lutheran Church and worked as a Pastoral/Visitation Assistant in the latter part of her life. Verna?s giving, sincere selfless soul will be greatly remembered and missed by so many. Verna is preceded in death by her husband Gene Eucker, siblings August Reiners, Viola Brock, Arnold Reiners, Loyd Reiners and Berneice Sohl, as well as son in law Don Ritter. She is survived by her children Cynthia Pascua, Jeffrey Eucker (Katy), Phillip Eucker (Leah) and Kathleen Ritter, nine grandchildren: Siena, Adam, Alyssa, Ava, Audrey, Morgan, Corbett, Perry and Tenley. The family would like to thank Moran Vista and Kindred Hospice for their loving care. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
