Virginia S. Williams

February 23, 1921 - October 08, 2016

Virginia S. Williams Obituary (Age 95) Virginia S. Williams was born in Thornton, Washington on February 23, 1921. She passed away on October 8, 2016 at the Rockwood South Hill Retirement Community in Spokane. She grew up with her younger sister, Elizabeth, and her older sister, Dorothea, on the family wheat farm. It was during a time when their father plowed and harvested the fields using equipment pulled by a team of horses, and she died in the age of computers and technology. After attending school in Rosalia, WA, she moved to Spokane where she held several secretarial positions, including a job at the Spokesman-Review. It was there that she met the love of her life and future husband, T. Knoble Williams. They were married on March 2, 1944 and enjoyed over sixty years very much devoted to each other, until his death in 2004. Virginia and Knoble were part of the Greatest Generation, having lived through World War II. While Knoble was away during the war, Virginia recalled spending many lunch hours writing letters to him from the tables on the mezzanine level of the Davenport Hotel. In later years, she enjoyed working in the elementary school libraries for the Spokane School District. At home, she always loved cooking and working in the garden, harvesting vegetables with Knoble and cutting and arranging flowers they had grown together. As a person who did not bring attention to herself, Virginia drew great enjoyment in supporting her husband and family, her children and grandchildren, and her neighbors. Every family dinner and family gathering was a very special time and she always had a hug and good wish for each person. She had a special way of making you feel good and letting you know you were deeply loved. Everyone who knew her felt her kindness. In her later years, she remained a warm and sentimental person, enjoying laughter with her family and sharing many stories of good times together. She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Hyslop (Bill) of Spokane, her son, Brian Williams (Mary Jane) of Portland, Oregon, three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, her sister Elizabeth Feldman of Shoreline, WA, and many nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life Service in Virginias honor will be held at the Manito Presbyterian Church, 401 E. 30th, Spokane, Saturday, October 22, 2016, at 11:00. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Rockwood Residents Foundation, 2903 E. 25th, Spokane, WA 99223.
