Vivian Hyslop Obituary
Vivian passed away in the early morning of June 26, 2023. She was born on December 15, 1939, in Davenport, WA to James E Knowles and Fayetta Knowles. Her parents, three sisters, and her brother all preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband Thomas Hyslop Jr.
She graduated from high school in Harrington, WA. She worked as a cook at Smitty?s Pancake House on North Division in Spokane where she and Tom met. They were married on July 8, 1962. Their 60th anniversary was on July 8, 2022, and she passed just 12 days before their 61st anniversary. Later she worked at Indiana Harness for several years. She then started her own business, The Spokane Tack Trunk, which dealt in horse tack, English show clothing and supplies.
Vivian always had a huge smile and made friends with everybody she met. Vivian and Tom formed a 4H club that became a drill team dressed like Union Soldiers. They did parades and half-time rodeo drills. One member was also a little mule named Joey with a US tattoo on his flank. There were many memorable moments having lots of kids at our home who loved horses. Many rode our horses, and some had their own. After their retirement, Vivian and Tom traveled extensively, visiting most of Europe, Mexico, the Baltic States, Central America, the Panama Canal, and Alaska.
A celebration of life will be held on August 12th at 11:00 AM at the chapel at Fairmount Cemetery in Spokane. Donations can be made in lieu of flowers in Vivian?s name to WSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital, 205 Ott Rd., Pullman, WA 99164.
